LODGING
We have a spare room with a queen bed and a spare 1/2 bath which anyone is welcome to use. Check the Travel Calendar at the bottom of the page for availability.
If this doesn't work for your or if we're out of room at the Groseth Inn, there are several hotels in the area. We've been visiting them and looking at the rooms( we don't have maid service or in room coffee, and you have to scrounge your own breakfast! *hee hee*) FREE!!!
- The nearest hotels are:
- The Water Wheel Inn - only a 1/2 mile from The Cottage.

TRANSPORT
I recommend flying to Aberdeen from London. It will be cheaper than riding the train or driving. We have two cars, one fits two people, the other can fit 4 adults depending on size. We can loan out one car but we need to know ahead of time to work out the insurance. Car rentals are about $35+ per day.
ACTIVITIES
- Castles - There are 5-6 castles that are a day trip from our house. We have a "Go to the castle Free" card but you can expect to pay a few pounds at each one. You can see maybe three in one day depending on crowds. At some castles you might have to wait to get in.
Scotland Castles in the Grampian/Aberdeen area - an in-depth listing.
- National Trust Castles in the Aberdeen Area - as you can see, different castles offer different facilities and prices vary.
- Pubs - are everywhere
- Distilleries - Scotland is famous for golf, tartans, and of course, Scotch Whiskey. While not around the corner, we are not far from the region where many distilleries are found. A day trip to one or two would not be difficult (and since we don't drink Scotch ourselves, we can be designated drivers). Check the Aberdeen tourist website for more details.
