Hollow Man

These lyrics are based on the very short story, The Man on the Hill.

The man on the hill looks down as the sky turns to grey turns to blue,
the clouds fly by overhead as if time crawled on the ground.
He bends over to pick up a pop top and flicks it out, over the cliff,
it is frozen in mid air and the wind passes through him.

Down below the man on the shore, and all the colors of a rainbow,
play out the sceens of a life.
He goes home to his child and his wife, not knowing but feeling.
He closes the door on another day and the wind does not pass through, but is turned away.

The man on the hill reflects on his full life, his home and companion,
the things from which his emptyness is made.
He is alone inside his head, and as the sky turns to red, time ussures in a new day.
It's beauty mocks him and he turns away, empty, hollow, man.

The man down below feels more than he knows,
and he knows that he knows very little.
And even when he is alone he is not alone.
As night falls he turns his head to the sky and gives thanks, for life, for love, for freedom.
